Purchase Terms & Conditions

AUCTION
You decide if you want to attend the auction in person, or place a bid via our website www.metropol.se or our designated bid terminals.

DESCRIPTION
Information about an item only provides guidance for prospective buyers. Photographs are for identification purposes only, which means that damage and faults may not always be evident from the photo. The buyer must inspect the item personally, or if the item is a higher value item should request a condition report prior to bidding.

RESERVE PRICE, BIDDING LEVEL
The reserve prices of auction items are based on prices previously reached for comparable items and should serve as a guide for the buyer. The bidding level, i.e. the lowest bid that can be placed, and the price level may be less than the reserve price and depends on what other customers have bid for the item. Please note that the price level is not necessarily the highest bid placed for the item. The highest bid is hidden to other bidders. Customer services monitors the item up to the maximum bid on behalf of the bidder against other bidders.

BIDDING
Buyers who intend to bid for an item must on proof of identity obtain a customer ID which also acts as a ‘paddle number’ during the auction.

If you decide not to attend the auction you may place bids free of charge via designated bidding terminals in the auction house, or via our website www.metropol.se.

The bid represents the highest amount the buyer is prepared to pay for the stated item, excluding fees and commissions, and is treated with strict confidence. The bid must reach Metropol in one of the above-mentioned ways before the auction begins.

Bids are monitored during the auction in the auction room by customer services. Metropol Auktioner bids on behalf of customers in the way most beneficial to the customers.

Metropol reserves the right to require a deposit or refuse registered bids if the bidder is not deemed to be able to pay for the placed bid, and to carry out standard credit checks on applicants. A written or verbal bid is always binding. Bids during the open outcry auction shall be made with a loud voice or a clear signal and shall be at a level considered reasonable with regard to the current price, and approved by the auctioneer. When the hammer falls, the person who placed the highest bid has entered into a binding agreement to buy. Your customer ID is personal and must be given when the hammer falls. Bids are placed at the risk of the bidder and Metropol Auktioner accepts no responsibility for any mistakes in the bidding process.

BUYING AND FEES
For each auction lot sold, a buyer's premium of 25% shall be added to the hammer price along with a standard auction fee of SEK 60. These fees include VAT. It is the responsibility of the bidder to check whether a bid has resulted in a purchase. In the event of equal bids, Metropol Auktioner shall accept the bid placed first.

DROIT DE SUITE
According to Sweden’s Act on Copyright in Literary and Artistic Works, a fee is payable on the resale of works of art and industrial art that are not produced in several identical copies. The fee is 5% for items sold for over SEK 2,300 (2017). Auction items subject to this fee are marked with (F) – from the Swedish term Följerätt.

PAYMENT
Purchased auction lots shall be paid for and collected within two days after the auction. After this time, a delay fee of SEK 40 per lot per day shall be charged. Auction lots which have not been collected within the stated time may also be stored by Metropol Auktioner.

This shall incur a cost for storage and for transport to the storage facility. Stored items may be collected by the purchaser at a pre-arranged time. To cover any costs, Metropol Auktioner reserves the right to resell purchased items which have not been paid for/collected on time. Such resale may take place without prior notice to the purchaser and without setting a reserve. When paying for purchased items by debit or credit card, the buyer shall pay the specific charges set by the bank for card use.

STORAGE
Metropol Auktioner is responsible for storing purchased auction lots during the approved credit period, i.e. two days. After this time, Metropol Auktioner’s responsibility ceases. Metropol shall not be responsible for any damage which may arises on collection. A purchased auction lot may be collected during standard business hours. Stored items may be collected by the purchaser at a pre-arranged time.

COMPLAINTS AND REFUNDS
Purchases are made based on the lot number. A wrongly placed bid does not constitute grounds for a refund. The auction lot is sold as seen. Clocks and watches and the works of a clock or watch are not sold as timepieces but as artistic objects. Metropol Auktioner therefore exempts itself from any responsibility for the technical functioning of a clock, a watch or the works of a clock or watch. Neither is Metropol responsible for damage to frames or wear in connection with viewing and auction. Complaints regarding auction lots whose function cannot be examined on site must be lodged no later than seven days after the auction. On no occasion shall the refunded sum exceed the amount originally paid by the buyer.

The right to revoke a purchase is restricted to the original buyer and ceases if the item is transferred to a third party.
